The Tree

In The Tree, alone in her apartment, A. talks to an unidentified interlocutor to report on an interior voyage begun when she received a small plant from her upstairs neighbor. One day, when cleaning her bookcase, A. sees herself tied to the plant by a hair strand and submerges into a strange process, seeing her body transform, slowly, into something she doesn’t know. Leaving behind her human form, taken by new sensations and perceptions, A. sometimes narrates common occurrences, and sometimes gives herself to various reflections, moving between lyricism and humor. An extraordinary experience, simultaneously private and collective.

About the author
Silvia Gomez was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in 1977. She's a journalist, playwright and screenwriter, author of the plays Mantenha fora do alcance do bebê (Keep Out of the Baby's Reach), winner of the APCA — Associação Paulista de Críticos de Arte award for best playwriting, as well as Aplauso Brasil, in 2015, and Neste mundo louco, nesta noite brilhante (In This Crazy World, in This Starry Night), nominated to the São Paulo Shell Award for best playwriting in 2019, among other works. Her plays were translated into Spanish, French, Swedish, German, English, Italian and Mandarin, and were produced and read in various countries, such as Bolivia, Mexico, England, Spain, Scotland and Portugal. The Tree was also shown at the Mujeres en Escena por La Paz festival, in Colombia, in 2021, the year it premiered. Since 2017, Gomez gives playwriting lessons in centers such as Centro de Pesquisa Teatral (CPT_Sesc) and Núcleo de Dramaturgia SESI-SP.

About the collection
The Dramaturgy Collection has, since 2012, published writing by Brazilian and international playwrights. The books help in building a memory of current theater, making a new record in the contemporary theater scene. In 2015, Cobogó also launched Dramaturgia Espanhola, the Spanish collection, and, in 2019, Dramaturgia Francesa, the French collection. Over 70 authors have been published, throughout 82 titles.
