Floating over Ruins, Floating

In Floating Over Ruins, Floating, a new release by Cobogó, Omar Salomão offers a fascinating record of the thoughts supporting his creativity, based on what he calls “essay attempts”. Pointing towards chance as the central element in his work, the reader is guided through a subjective journey amidst text fragments and memories through which the author weaves an investigation composed by three cases balanced on the line between plastic and poetic: Swiss-born Brazilian artist Mira Schendel’s (1919-1988) monotypes, Alagoas artist Edgard Braga (1897-1985) and his visual, graphic poems, and Waly Salomão (1983-2003), blurring lines, letters and himself with his Babilaques. “Creation works itself and generates evidence, vestiges, clues, traces, specters, shadows, reverberations, remains and residues,” the author states. In this weaving writing, Omar dismantles his textual structures to search for (and reveal) his own creative process and art’s hidden workings and shapes.

About the author
Omar Salomão was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1983. He's an artist, a poet, a designer and a set designer. With a master's degree in Literature, Culture and Contemporaneity from PUC-Rio, he’s currently a PhD candidate in Romance Languages and Literatures with a secondary field in Critical Media Practice from Harvard University. He's the author of Pequenos reparos (Small repairs), José Olímpio, 2017, and Impreciso (Imprecise), Dantes, 2011, among other books.
