Little Holes or The Wind Is the Enemy of Picumã

An Afro-Brazilian boy, born and raised in Guaianases, a São Paulo east side neighborhood, goes to the bakery at the behest of his mother, on the first day of the year, and is accosted by a police officer. That sets of a survival saga, and the protagonist goes on a marathon through the world, passing through Latin American and African countries. On the way, he meets various characters – social archetypes – that weave the story’s events. Through his journey, the boy is shot 111 by the police officers running after him. Small holes being opened without shame and ash blowing in the wind. In this play, narrated in the first person, Jhonny Salaberg denounces black genocide with a strong tinge of fantastic realism

About the author
Johnny Salaberg is an actor, playwright and dancer. He was born in Guaianases, a neighborhood in the east side of São Paulo. He graduated from the Santo André Theater School and acted in some of the city’s theater companies, such as the Estopô Balaio Collective and the Clandestina Company. Founder and member of Carcaça de Poéticas Negras, an art collective researching racial-scenic creation, where he wrote Mato cheio (Full Bush). Little Holes or The wind is the Enemy of Picumã received an award from Centro Cultural São Paulo’s IV Theater Festival in small scenic formats, making Salaberg the first Afro-Brazilian playwright to receive an award from the festival.
