Planet Everything

In Planet Everything there’s everything anyone might want — but only one of each thing. When something breaks, there’s no replacing it. Or, actually, you must go to that place where there are various copies of different things: a strange planet called Earth. Jan, Sylpia, and Bavo, three aliens from Everything, come to Earth disguised as humans, in search for spare parts. Attempting to behave as earthly as possible, which isn’t easy, they face vast ambiguous human feelings.

Planeta Tudo, by Esther Gerritsen, translated by Ivam Cabral and Rodolfo García Vásquez, is an absurd comedy, both light and critical, that makes you laugh and think about human peculiar habits. It’s one of the five titles published by the Dramaturgia Holandesa collections, which presents foundational Dutch contemporary theater texts translated by important names of Brazilian theater.

About the author
Esther Gerritsen was born in Nijmegen, in the Netherlands, in 1972. She’s a playwright, novelist, and screenwriter. She studied playwriting and literature at Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (HKU). In 1995, she began writing plays both for adults and children. Among them, some highlights are Gras (1999), Planeta Tudo (2002) and De dag en de nacht en de dag na de dood (2005). Although she began her career in stage writing, her last play was written in 2011, when she started focusing on novels — many of them nominated for the important Dutch-language novel award Libris Literatuur Prijs, such as De Trooster (2018) and Dorst (2012). In 2014, she won the Frans Kellendonk award for her body of work. She’s the coauthor of the television series Red Light (2020), and also wrote the film Instinct (2019), which won prizes in Locarno, Toronto, and London film festivals and was the Dutch contender for the Best Foreign Picture Academy Award in 2019.
